Art has always been a passion of mine. Even from an early age growing up in Columbus, Ohio, I always gravitated toward art classes as a form of self and creative expression. Whether it’s a photo, nature, or an image I see while driving, I constantly seek to create. In my newest creation, I have joined the worlds of art and wine to create, Cote Winery. Each bottle of wine has a unique painting on the label that it is named after. Those pieces are also hung in the tasting room creating a small art gallery.
Living in Mt. Gilead allows me to gather inspiration from the surrounding areas of Ohio along with the several acres that I live on. I work in oil for its complexity, boldness and richness. The movement in each piece enables me to create some paintings that are soft and light, and others that are bold and dynamic. Often times my pieces are derived from nature or natural events that are meant to evoke thought and emotion through the movement and color of each piece.
Some of my techniques include using a multitude of solvents with either the palette knife or catalyst wedge. Most recently I have been layering oil paint over textures. This not only gives the piece a bit more depth, but it also adds complexity that inspires the viewer to take a closer look. My painting surfaces range from canvas, linen, and wood panel which can change the look and feel of each piece.
