In 2023, I came across several pointillist paintings in the Cleveland Museum of Art. In examining these works, I discovered that the optical mixing of primary colors achieved in pointillism directly resolves the issue of color in natural light appearing overly saturated. This was a byproduct of the technique of placing dots of color next to one another. In pointillism, a color’s hue is changed only by adding white. Unlike traditional methods of mixing compliments, pointillism creates black, grays and desaturated colors through proximity. The observed color is only truly achieved in the act of perception and in the viewer's mind.
In my most recent paintings, I have attempted to integrate my love of baroque portraiture and its chiaroscuro methods to render form, and the color theory of pointillism.

Jeffrey Willis is a freelance artist, living and working in Mansfield Ohio. Gibby attended the Columbus College Of Art and Design, and graduated with a Bachelors Of Fine Arts. She graduated from her tattoo apprenticeship in 2022, and has been tattooing full-time ever since. When she is not tattooing, she is enjoying movie nights with her husband, who is also an artist! She enjoys all things horror, and her work reflects this. She enjoys working with graphite pencils on paper, and tattooing color realism. Gibby’s drawings and tattoos share similar elements of horror, with the primary focus being texture.
"I create art that focuses on texture, with elements of horror. I love building layers using contrast, and subject matter that often invokes a sense of dread. My “ghouls” are always front and center. It’s important to me that my work, both in my tattoos as well as my drawings, create a world filled with details that keep the viewer looking."

Mindy Duncan is a Mansfield High School art teacher and professional artist who has had numerous solo exhibits and collectors across the country. She has 10 works in Ashland University’s permanent art collection. She says, “Regardless of whether it’s a collage, layered with textures and objects, always hiding a much deeper meaning/story weaving through what’s visible on the surface, or a more straightforward painting that gives me just as much enjoyment, I just can’t not create. It’s like breathing.”
Sally Lytle has lived among the hills of Northeast Ohio her entire life. The trees, creeks and roads around her Paris, Ohio studio home are filled with stories of wonder and beauty, captured on Sally's canvases in regular plein-air sessions. Armed with a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art, Sally began her career as a graphic designer but quickly gravitated toward creating her own fine art.
Since she was a young girl on her parent's farm, art and horses have been the most important things in her life. For a number of years she pursued dual careers as fine artist and thoroughbred racing jockey. It is not as odd a pairing as it may look at first glance. Both careers were built on Sally's passion. However, her career as a jockey proved more threatening to life and limb than her career as a fine artist.
Today, Sally lives a quieter life on her Paris acreage surrounded by the beauty of the woods, woodland critters and her horses. A joyful day still remains a good ride and a long plein air painting session. Though today she rides with long stirrups and a far more leisurely gait than her racing days. She still paints at a frenetic pace creating beautiful art in a style that can only be described as Sally Lytle.

Patrick G. Buckohr studied graphic design at the University of Akron and worked in printing and publishing in and around Canton, Ohio for 15 years before leaving that career to follow his dream of making art full time. For another 10 years he balanced freelance work in graphic design and illustration with public murals and other fine art pursuits, until a commission stirred within him a passion for sculpture. Buckohr has spent the last 20 years throwing himself at the medium of forged and welded iron at his studio in downtown Canton. He has 65 pieces of public art in Northeast Ohio including murals and iron work.
