Portrait of Erin Mulligan practicing karate. This is a still shot of her in the air, about to strike with a kick. The focus is on a close-up of the intensity of the expression just before the execution, leaving the viewer ambiguous about what the look actually means. Erin mentioned an author that she loves, so I listened to "The Enchanted Life" by Sharon Blackie as I painted. This author mentions a lot about nature and folklore, and suggests choosing a place, plant, and/or animal with which to feel aligned. I thought of Erin and her love of animals, and the probability that she is other peoples' spirit animal.
