Be Mine - collaborative photography / installation

It all began when a curator invited artists to be part of a David Lynch tribute exhibit at Cyrus Gallery.  Using Lynch's quote that "life doesn't make sense, so why should art?", we went with an absurdity approach.  Lynch has some iconic scenes in his films with black-and-white floors and heavy velvet curtains.  Photographer Julie Stanley noticed the black-and-white flooring at JAFB in Wooster, Ohio, so our location was set.  There is a mysterious glow that comes from their lower level staircase, plus a cinematic fence rail.  We added a fog machine and a bubble machine for extra drama.
Because the show was taking place on Friday, Feb. 13 / Valentines Eve, we went with a slightly spooky valentine theme.  Thus, a realistic-looking human heart, sculpted by House, was added to the candy hearts. Christian Harwell sealed the scene with a blue lacquered frame and black velvet curtains that extend beyond the art borders.
